Great Morning

Had a great run this morning.

Cooler and breezier than my normal Sunday afternoon runs. Really need to move my long runs to Saturday morning so I can acclimate slowly to the cooler temperatures. Remember the half marathon is in November and it tends to be pretty chilly at 7 am. It takes me about a mile to get warmed up.

Recovery is starting to take longer. However, I am running 4.5 miles on the weekdays and then a long run on the weekend. It is a good combination for working out and is definitely building strength.

I did notice I am right leg dominate. I have to think about using and pushing with my left leg. If I don't the leg tends to just go through the motion. Anyone who has ridden a paddle boat with me knows the most of my power is in my right leg. Much to their annoyance.

Weekly weigh-in: 240.4*
* estimated, added 4 to after run weight.

MVP - Coaching

I am really liking the MVP add on to MapMyRun+ on my iPhone.

With MVP status my friends can track me live, I can recorded heart rate*, I can record number of steps*, and I can have the coaching option voice tell me every minute that I am running too fast, too slow, or good job. You can also switch the voice off on the coaching option and have it just play tones.

The one thing I don't like about the coaching option is that the "good job!" range is within like 5%. I wish I could set a +/- variance because at a 10 minute mile, that is 30 seconds either way. Seems like a lot to me.

It is great when you run a long stretch and you hear current pace between 9:29 and 9:41 for over a half mile.

Question is, can I do that at a slower pace and keep it going. We shall see when I run my next long run.

Shoes are doing well. They were snug but not too light. New shoes seem more cushiony. I am thinking my old ones are wore out. Maybe I'll save then and use them in a mud run so I can dispose of them afterwards.
