In it they had a training plan for prepping for a Marathon. The scary thing is, if I look where I am at now and look at the training plan I find myself right on schedule for running a full marathon.
No, I am not running the full marathon THIS year. It is not out of the realm of possibilities in the future.
While reading the article I became bewildered. The longest run they had listed was an 8 mile run. Really? You only need to prep with 8 miles when your planning to run 26.2 miles? Seems a little off for me.
I like to run the whole "race" a few times before race day. This lets me know my pace and if my time and speed consistency is improving.
However, when I looked, it always said so many mile at MP. I had to look around the page a little bit to find out that MP is short for Marathon Pace.
Tonight I went out hoping to run at least 4 miles at what is going to be my Race Pace. I have set my goal at 2 hrs 24 mins and change... Or an 11 minute mile average for the Half-Marathon.
It was time for my long run which is currently at 6 miles. It's pretty difficult to run that first mile that slow... But I also knew that keeping that pace for the long haul would be difficult. So I succumbed to the MapMyRun advertisement and purchased a year of MVP status.
So how is that going to help? Well I have the app that track my runs set to tell me every 30 seconds what my pace is. It helped a lot. I found myself running fast at the beginning and slowing down around mile 5.
Overall I was happy with today's run as I was able to run all 6 miles at a pretty consistent race pace.
