Essential Gear

So, you are starting to run 3+ miles. Well, there is some essential gear that you will want to invest in.

The first thing I would purchase is some athletic boxer briefs. Either that or buy stock in Vaseline and then a truck load of Vaseline.

I have seen plenty of people need to go to the med tent for Vaseline. The only thing I could think of was my thighs. Really. When I started to run more than 3 miles I noticed my thighs would be a little raw. Athletic boxer briefs solved this. Plus they will help wick away unwanted moisture.

Second purchase would be some good running/athletic socks. I received mine as a gift and probably would have never purchased them. However, after I started using them it would be very difficult for me to go back to regular cotton socks. They will wick away moisture as well, but they also help with friction inside the shoe. Save yourself some blisters.

Last, but not least...  an athletic shirt. I know, I am not buff either. Problem is you will lose large amounts of water. All of which will collect in that cotton t-shirt that you love.... Until that cotton t-shirt starts to get heavy and messes with your mind and slows you down.

If that's not bad enough, your nipples will start to bleed. They itch really bad when they start healing. You can try putting band-aids on over them and see how that works for you, but I have found better success just wearing an athletic shirt that is light and wicks away the moisture. The ladies have an advantage in this area. A good sports bra may work for them...

That's about it for now.
