For all of you out there who don't know what a "kremlin" is (no it's not related to a gremlin!) =) - it means "fort" or "castle". This particular one in Moscow became infamous as the center of Soviet rule. It still has many government buildings, but it's also so much more.
There are many cathedrals, with the onion domes that are so typical of Russian architecture. Our guide explained a lot about what the different parts of a cathedral means. It really helped us appreciate their culture and history.
This is the largest bell in the world. It weighs over 200 tons (yes, three digits)!! It was in the bell tower, but a fire started, and the water used to save the bell caused it to crack. Ooops! The part that is cracked off weighs 11 tons by itself!
Thanks DeAnn :)
