I thought this monument is so cool! It's of Peter the Great, the czar who did the most to bring Russia into modern times. He was a scholar, shipbuilder, the founder of St. Petersburg, and more. It's located in a river, not far from Red Square. It's so huge!! We thought we were close to it, until I saw a side view, and realized how much space was between it and where we were standing! I don't remembr seeing any pictures of it in guide books; our coordinator said it's fairly new.
Here's another of St. Basils. I'm not really sure who the statues are of.

How's this for a couple of tourists? I wasn't totally prepared for our little outing that day. We were doing paperwork, and I mentioned to our coordinator that we would like to sightsee whenever we have time. She quickly made some calls, and laid the plans for her son to meet us and take us to Red Square. So, I toted around my big bag loaded with things we had taken to Diana - a very heavy picture dictionary included. We were so tired that night that we went to bed at 7:30!
More to come!
