O.K. In all seriousness the worst month for me is June. Especially when the Cottonwood Trees start letting loose natures little cotton balls.
It is very easy to.... What's the right word for it?... To be lazy. You heard me. Sometimes you just don't feel like running. Trust me, there will be a lot of those days.
Well, last night storms went through and we lost power at our house. When we went to be about 10:30 it was about 68 degrees outside so we opened the windows in our room for some air flow so we would wake to a stuffy room.
As my day progressed today my allergies started kicking it up a notch. Why? Because of poor planning.
At noon I swung by Walgreens and purchased a package of Zyrtec-D. The sneezing and dripping nose slowly started to fade.
When I arrived home this evening my sneezing had stopped. I still had a slowly dripping nose, that is now raw and irritated. It would have been very easy to convince myself that I was in no shape to run. The conditions weren't perfect.
However I persevered with the raw nose and ran a fast short run. I did respectfully well for me. I was only a second off of last weeks short fast run.
The point is, if you are planning to actually run more than a 5K you are going to do just that. PLAN!
I should have known opening the windows overnight would trigger my allergy symptoms. I should have planned to take my meds before bed so I wouldn't be miserable.
Same goes for running, if you don't want to feel miserable after a race day event, it takes a PLAN. So start planning now! How are you going to work yourself up to 13.1 or so miles? Is race day going to be the first time you run that far? Or do you want to run that distance a time or two before?
Well, start planning because race day is getting closer everyday!
