Ludington

Last weekend we spent up at "the condo" in Ludington. It's kinda been a tradition for the past few years to go up that weekend with David and Jenna and kiddos. This year we added Mark and Julie and clan to the bunch. We had a ball!
Ludington has a channel that connects the big lake (Lake Michigan) to a smaller lake, with a breakwall on either side, creating a peaceful harbor. The condo is in an awesome spot right on the channel! The beach is always calm and safe (no worries about rip currents).

The first two days, the weather was not so nice (very windy, rainy and rather cool).
We walked out to the breakwall only as far as there was land connected to it on one side. It was enthralling to see the waves engulf the light post at the end and wash over the breakwall and the turquoise, blues and grays of the water.
The wind was so strong we could lean into it. Here's the "kids" trying to fly home - which wasn't too far off! I felt like a kite in my nylon jacket! =D It was so bad that there were NO boats going out for two days! Not even the famous Badger ferry! It was kinda weird being at the condo and not seeing a single boat and not hearing the Badger's horn. I mean, that's what Ludington is all about!

Hey - who's that in the picture!! Can it really be me?!? Yes, but only because Julie had the camera! LOL!
To fill in the time, we took the kids to AJ's, the local entertainment center. They had fun at the arcades, getting a ridiculous amount of tickets to turn in for prizes!! =D

Thankfully, Sunday was gloriously sunny and a teansy bit warmer. The breeze was calmer and boats were out again. The Badger left for the first time since we'd been there.
Mark and David had brought their little sailboats with them, and I got to help them launch them. I ended up in the water up to my waist, without my bathing suit, twice! The things we do for family!! =D But, I love sailing so it was worth it! We all had a great time buzzing around the harbor.

Otto bought a kayak right before we went up (from Goodwill, believe it or not). The waves were still plenty strong at the beach, so he had a bit of a tough time getting going. Pretty much dumped over immediately! Hehe!! Good thing the water is fairly warm this year. =)
"What's wrong with this picture?" Do you see the children wearing swimsuits... and JACKETS???!!! =D I felt a little silly when I was packing, as I put bathing suits and sweatshirts in together. That's the lake for ya! =D LOL!
David made a pig of himself again, as always, at the House of Flavors restaurant. They have a HUGE sundae called the "Pig's Dinner" that he orders every year - it comes with a little pin to show the world what a pig you are! =)

Okay, if you can look at this picture and not smile, there's something seriously wrong with you! It even made Otto smile!! =O hehe! This is my favorite little 5-month-old! He's so stinkin' cute!!!

Our darlings - growing so fast!

Thank you, Dad and Mom Schlatter, from the bottom of our hearts, for letting us all take over your home! It was so wonderfully sweet of you to leave so we could be there! I hope we didn't cause too much permanent damage, leave too much of a disaster, or use up too much of your food (you've got such a great stocked pantry!!) Hehe! =D You are the best! We love and adore you so much!
Until next time, Ludington! I'll be dreaming of you!
