Message from Doris

I wanted to post this message from Doris to let you know what the Haitian people are thinking about the whole ordeal.

Dear friends,

I just wanted to tell you a little bit about our church service yesterday. The message was about Math. 24:18 where the disciples wanted to show Jesus the magnificent temple and then Jesus told them that it will be destroyed. We had a prayer service remembering that God is still in control. The song "God will take care of me" was sung with deep emotion. Many of the believers were survivors from Port-au-Prince. Most Christians believe that this earthquake is God's judgment for our country since the government is not honoring God. Most of the official buildings have been destroyed, most hotels, big supermarkets, churches, and big buildings are down. The aftermath of this terrible disaster will be seen in the months to come since every public office was centralized in the capital.

After church we went to the wife of Frantz' cousin who could be rescued but her 2 kids and a friend didn't make it. The testimony this lady has really touched me deeply. "I'm not mad at God. I am asking why did I survive. When I was between two walls with barely any room to breathe I only could call on God and rededicate my life to him again. My son was one step away from freedom when the wall buried him. I heard my husband and friends tried to pry me out but the metal was too short. God gave me strength to push some of the blocks away and finally they got me out. I only can thank God for his mercy towards me and I will continue to talk about His strength I felt while trapped." This is only one of many survivors who credit their rescue to God. But there are others that clearly announce that there is no God if something like that could happen. Please pray for the people who have lost loved ones, for the survivors who are traumatized, and for all of us here on how to help short and long term. Even we are still very tense. We are thankful that Dr. Beebe and his wife, and the other teams that were on the mission compound could leave Haiti to be united with their families again.

Later today we are planning to send food to the soccer field in Cayes because there are many refugees camping there. We have a former SEED student in Leogane with an orphanage and are waiting for an update from him. The hospitals are full, not enough doctors, supplies, and food.

We are asking for your prayers so that we can help in the way Christ would want us to do it. Thanks for holding us up! We feel it and are encouraged that we are not alone in this battle.

God's blessings,

Doris for Frantz, Daniel, and Manuel
