I'm just curious here - What's in your kitchen that is a staple that other people might think is odd? I mean the kind where when it gets low, you put in on the list, and if you run out, you have your hubby pick it up?
Also, what's your secret super-helper ingredient? The one that is versatile and makes your life a lot easier.
In our house, one of our staples is Reddi Whip! Yes, we love it! It goes on top of hot cocoa, waffles, pancakes, ice cream, brownies....
My helper ingredient lately has been Italian seasoned bread crumbs that come in a carton. I use them for meatloaf, meatballs, chicken coating... anything that needs cracker crumbs. I've done all kinds of crazy things to crush crackers without a huge mess - from using my mini prep food processor to putting them in baggies and having my children hop on them (no kidding!). =O And if you really know me, you know that while I like to eat, and I'm fairly good at cooking, I don't really get excited about cooking. So, I love my store-bought cracker crumbs!!

Okay...I know this is really lame, and it's not usually this bad but with morning/noon/night sickness the two things I cannot live without right now are #1 fresh fruit (yes, again oranges and grapefruits are my crave) and #2 the Schwan's man!! No kidding... I can't cook right now but I CAN open the freezer and throw an already prepared meal in the oven....most days... maybe ask again in about 6 1/2 months and I'll have a better answer for you!! I do love the seasoned bread crumbs though...your mom introduced me to boughten bread crumbs and I haven't had my kids jumping on ziplocks since!! : ) Take care! Wish you were HERE... I could really use a friend I can invite over even with my house the state it's in : ) Love, melisa and crew
ReplyDeleteStaples in my kitchen: Bar-keeper's friend (to clean my Cutco pans) and Coconut oil -it's on my grocery list right now(to grease my pans). I really do love my pans!!(Thanks Mom:0)

hmmmmm...I think something we use for everything around here is olive oil. Close runner up...pepper mill by the stove top. I don't even look if a recipe calls for these two things really...they just go in the dish somewhere. =o)
ReplyDeleteThe random thing...Barilla plus pasta. We use that stuff about twice a week. We have it plain with sauce or added to other dishes...but it shows up on our table a lot and goes on the list if we're low.
I think I would like Italian bread crumbs too. =o)

I always have frozen chicken breasts! I can make last minute meals quick with them and in a large variety! Also, TS Seasoned Salt, I use that ALL the time. Oh, and the Birds Eye brand veggies. They are avaible in a steam bag that you just pop in the microwave, they are so easy and otherwise I'm not good at serving them with dinner :(
ReplyDeleteAfter 56 years of marriage I HAVE to have eggs, butter, Virgin Olive Oil (I cook with that all the time) Sea salt and Lemon Pepper. Don't ask me why cause I just have to have them. I keep a running grocery list and whoever takes the last of any item off the shelf and do not put it on my list, well just well it does not go over very well when ask if there is any on the shelf and I say yes, and none is found, some one is going to pay a price. Spoiled, yes, but organized. Luv ya - Arlene
