Yeah! I can hear again....

Last weekend we went to visit Mark & Julie in Indianapolis. We took the kids to the zoo and it was a great weekend but, it still wasn't over. Sunday after church we headed for Kentucky. What is in Kentucky? The Creation Museum! We went earlier this year with the Beebe clan, but on Saturdays that place is absolutely packed and we were hoping that Monday would be a quieter day. Thank goodness we were right in our thinking. It was still busy, but we were able to get around quickly and see all the main points of interest without really having to hurry. Anywho, that has nothing to do with my hearing... so... Sunday night we stayed at a Hotel with a pool and went swimming with the kids! Diana really likes the pool. Well with all the goofing around, I got some water in my ear. I couldn't get it all of it out so I decided that what ever was left would evaporate over night. I was wrong. By Wednesday I was in much pain. I drove to my doctors office at 7:30 in the morning and asked for the first open appointment (9). My doctor came to the conclusion that it was an outer ear infection due to excessive moisture, aka: swimmers ear. I really didn't know that it would hurt so much... I would much rather have strep throat than swimmers ear.... but it gets better. He prescribes me ear drops that have antibiotics in them... $25 for 5ml and that is after insurance. Well, Thursday night I decide it is either worse or the same and call off work on Friday. Friday I went to see the doc again and he agreed that it was progressing in the wrong direction. He then prescribed a really strong oral antibiotics (which were free at Meijer) and told me to keep doing the drops as well... Yesterday night was the first night I could hear out of of my left ear since Tuesday evening. Lets hope it continues to heal well because if it doesn't my doctor warned he would have to call in the ear, nose and throat speciallist to handle it.

  2. Otto -
I love your visual of an ear! And at least you have insurance...doctor's here don't accept insurance and I just walked away from a yearly check up that cost me S$800!! Thankfully ours is reimbursed by the company - I can't imagine how the locals make it all work!

Glad you are feeling better - I have had two ear infections in the past few years and they can be absolutely miserable.
